About Moons Restaurant And Bar

The dim lighting and rustic wooden accents create a warm, inviting atmosphere that gently hums with the quiet murmur of conversation at Moons Restaurant And Bar. Photos found online capture its cozy interior well, reflecting an ambiance that’s both relaxed and intimate. The balance between casual comfort and a touch of refinement makes it suitable for various occasions, although the slightly compact space might feel a bit tight during peak hours. Recent reviews underscore this mix—patrons often appreciate the vibe, but some note that the cozy setting can challenge larger groups or those seeking more privacy.

Diversifying beyond typical expectations, the menu at Moons offers an intriguing blend of contemporary and locally inspired dishes, each plated with a certain care that invites a closer look. The standout is a perfectly seared duck breast, complemented by a tangy chutney and seasonal vegetables, delivering a decisive flavor without overwhelming the palate. However, some selections lean towards the pricier side, which could surprise guests scanning Moons Restaurant And Bar’s menu for budget-friendly options. Service generally keeps pace with the relaxed environment, attentive yet unobtrusive, although a few slower moments were noted during busier times in some reviews of the restaurant.

Emerging from the meal is a sense that Moons manages to walk a fine line between understated flair and everyday accessibility. While the restaurant doesn’t boast extravagant showmanship, its consistent execution earns it a respectable place among Dunedin’s dining scene. Even if photos shared online give a fairly accurate preview, they can’t fully convey the welcoming energy of the surroundings or the thoughtful layering of flavors across the dishes. Overall, Moons Restaurant And Bar offers an experience that rewards patience and curiosity, with a few trade-offs that might inform expectations before arrival.

Amazing spot!! Definitely a must see for any craft brewery fans. The beer was top notch and we had one of the best burgers in New Zealand here. Incredibly friendly and welcoming staff. Cozy atmosphere and very quaint. We'll definitely be back when we're in Dunedin again.

So good I went three times in one week! Exceptional and exciting food options paired with the loveliest staff make Moons our favourite spot for all occasions. Best lemon lime and bitters in the city, massive range of craft beer, and it’s true what they say about the burger - famous for a reason! Also fabulous for coeliac diners, an inclusive menu and coeliac friendly food safety practices really make a huge difference for friends and family. An icon in the Dunedin food scene!

Great experience here , it was one of the highlights of our trips. Lovely relaxed setting. The service was superb, staff were welcoming and genuine. The beer and food were excellent. We especially enjoyed the burger (best burger yet) and the deep fried pickles. Thanks again Sarah and Stephen ????????

We recently held our team Christmas function at Moons and had an absolutely brilliant experience. Jenny and the team were awesome to deal with in the lead up and answered any questions promptly. We were able to go in and set up our own decorations earlier on the day and collect them the next day. The service was so friendly and welcoming and we were all still raving about the beautiful food and discussing our different dishes in the days afterwards. The menu had so much to offer and we weren't stuck with having a set menu even though we were a group of 24 with a variety of dietary requirements. They catered for Coeliacs, Vegan and Vegetarians. The selection of drinks was also superb and there was something for everyone. I would highly recommend Moons to anyone! AAA+

Full marks to Moons for successfully combining craft beer brewery, gastropub and live music venue into one. Ambience is great and both food and drink menus have something for everyone.

This was an excellent restaurant. The selection of beers on tap was great, with lighter pilsners to darker stouts. The starters, or smaller plates, were so good. We tried the arancini balls and deep fried gherkins which were absolutely fantastic. Then we had the their burger, with hand made buns, hand made burger patty and lovely tangy sauce. It was one of, if not, the best burgers I've eaten. I then had the Dark and Stormy baked cheesecake for dessert. It was so good, I had to literally fight off my partner who stole about a quarter of it. The staff were so friendly and able to offer great advice on the food and beer selection. I would dine there again in a heartbeat.
